From Guest-Blogger Mark Ellis: The Benefits of Owning an Electric Moped
When you consider the rising price of gas, as well as other economic factors which are taking a toll on your bank account and wallet, you may want to consider a device that will help you save money while getting you around town. Most people know what a moped is and have probably seen one at one time or another in their lives. Basically, a moped is a scooter that has pedals on it, and an electric moped is just that, a moped that is run by an electric motor.
Now, electric mopeds are not much different than electric bicycles in and that they have their motor located on the rear wheel “hub” of the unit. In other words, there is an electric motor on the back rear wheel of the vehicle, which gives it the power it needs to travel. Over the last several years, the electric motors and electric mopeds have improved drastically due to the large demand for these vehicles worldwide. Electric motors on the moped are now self-contained, which means that dirt and water cannot get inside of the electric motor and cause damage to it. Also, there are fewer moving parts on the newer electric models that are being sold today and this is good because the electric mopeds will now need less maintenance than they have in the past.
Another benefit of owning an electric moped is the fact that they are fueled by rechargeable electric batteries. They do not require fossil fuels or gasoline to ride on and in many cases, you can even rig up the electric moped’s recharging device so that they are recharged by solar energy. In other words, you can have solar panels on your house or on your garage and recharge your electric batteries with them, thus making the electric moped a sustainable energy vehicle.
This is usually pretty attractive to people who are concerned about the environment and global warming, and for the average person, they just make you happier knowing that you are contributing to a cleaner environment. Another benefit of riding an electric moped is the fact that they are so quiet and therefore, they cut down on local noise pollution. This is pretty important to people who live in heavy urban areas where the noise is constant from fossil fueled vehicles that drive by constantly. The only sound you will hear from an electric moped is a quiet “zip” from the rubber riding on the road as you travel around.
Unlike electric bikes that are more for people that want to get exercise than anything else, the electric moped allows you to have more storage space on your vehicle, thereby allowing you to make errands around town a lot easier. Usually, there are storage spaces in the front of the unit as well as under the seat and in the back there should be two big bins for you to load things into. So, in this manner the electric moped has got a better function than the electric bike for doing errands. However, it may be stated that electric bikes may fill of the requirements for different people. If you want a vehicle for recreation, then you may want to consider an electric bicycle rather than an electric moped.
One other aspect of the electric moped that is very attractive, is the fact that it not only does the electric moped look like a regular motorized vehicle, but because it is an electric vehicle it does not have to be registered nor does there need to be a license obtained for it. So, if for some reason you have lost your license or cannot drive, then you should consider getting an electric moped because there is no registration or license required for these types of vehicles.
