Green Auto Digest’s Stakeholder Advisory Board
Starting in June, I’ll be wearing yet another hat in this space. I just accepted an invitation to become a member of the “Stakeholder Advisory Board” for Green Auto Digest. The board will convene monthly, helping sort out thorny issues concerning the adoption of EVs and other alternative fuel vehicles: charging standards, utility metering, battery recycling, vehicle-to-grid, etc.
Should be fun.
Perhaps you’ll have a chance to object to corn-derived ethanol as motor fuel. It really makes no sense from a number of standpoints. Unlike Brazil’s ethanol from sugar cane, it does not reduce CO2 emissions. It also increases the price of food products, reduces fuel efficiency, and shortens the life of the fuel systems in some vehicles. There are now proposals to increase the percentage of ethanol in motor fuel from 10% to 15% which would exacerbate the negative effects of using corn-derived ethanol.
Although attempting to predict the future is fraught with peril, I do believe that EVs and alternative-fueled vehicles may play an important rôle in our transportation system.
Yes, corn-based ethanol was perhaps the single biggest rip-off ever perpetrated on the American people.
