From Guest-Blogger Mathias: Mexico Invests Big in Solar Power
Conermex, one of the largest solar and wind power companies in Mexico, predicts that Mexico will double their capacity of solar within 2012, from 6 to 12 MW.
Mexico’s National Solar Energy Association (ANES) says that Mexico could possibly generate all their electricity with solar power in the future.
Mexico receives somewhere around 400 TW of solar energy annually, which puts them in the top five countries in the world with the greatest extension of territory with solar irradiation.
There has been a 150% increase in photovoltaic investments from 2010 to 2011, or $20 to $50 million dollars, and this number is expected to further increase this year.
Even though there has been quite a lot of growth in the solar sector in Mexico, Carlos Flores, CEO of Conermex, says that solar investments must be taken even further if solar is to become the energy foundation of the country – not to mention the work that has to be done in energy storage.
