Esplanade Capital To Present Key Concepts in Solar Energy Investments
Recently, my good friend and long-time 2GreenEnergy supporter Tom Konrad introduced me to his colleague Shawn Kravetz, founder of Esplanade Capital, a hedge fund that’s been “focused” on the solar energy market (pardon the pun) since 2006. When I met Shawn in Philadelphia last week I was instantly impressed with what I saw and heard — and I think you will be too.
You see, I’ve decided to host one of our webinars in March and invite Shawn as my guest. I’ve asked him to discuss the big issues that affect the validity of an investment in solar, things like:
- The shake-out / consolidation in the industry, due largely to volatile module pricing and the Chinese attempts to own the market
- Lowering BOS (balance of system) costs as necessary to bring LCOE (levelized cost of energy) closer to grid-parity
- The advent of smart-grid, energy storage, V2X (vehicle-to-everything), etc. as a response to the issues associated with integrating large amounts of PV
- Distributed generation and a new energy delivery paradigm
- The political landscape and the future of subsidies
- PV in the context of other forms of solar, e.g., CPV (concentrated PV) and CSP (concentrated solar power, aka solar thermal)
In addition, I’ve suggested that he cover specific corporate successes (and failures) of the industry – past, present, and future, e.g., BrightSource, Solar City, First Solar, etc.
