Dow Chemical and Corporate Sustainability
This morning, Rebecca McKenzie, one our most talented and hard-working interns, joined me in an hour-long telephone interview with three spokespeople from the Dow Chemical Company on the subject of corporate sustainability. I’ll link to a transcript of the interview as soon as it’s available, but for now, let me just say that I was impressed. First, I was blown away with Rebecca, and the level of homework she had done in preparation for the interview – and so was Dow. “Holy smokes,” one of them said when she showed a working knowledge of huge chunks of their plans and policies. “I thought you were to ask me about them, I had no idea you had memorized them,” he joked cordially.
The bottom line is that, by virtue of being a chemical company, and thus lying at the center of the place where energy and materials science come together, Dow influences the way literally millions of products are made, packaged, shipped, used, and disposed of. It’s an awesome responsibility that they take very seriously.
I think readers will be impressed with Dow’s understanding of the issues as well as their sincerity in bringing about a sustainable tomorrow.
