Writing on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion
I’m working with a young writer who aspires to publish content on OTEC (ocean thermal energy conversion) on a number of different high-profile sites, so as to educate as many people as possible on the subject, and to drive traffic to the hot new website EmpowerTheOcean.com. I thought readers may be interested in what I’m advising him to do:
I suggest you position yourself as a fiery, passionate humanitarian who happens to be an expert on and advocate for OTEC. Keep in mind that there are a few things about OTEC that make it newsworthy:
• Replacement of diesel as the default choice for electricity generation in the island nations, and all the harm that petroleum represents: climate change, ocean acidification, support of terrorism, loss of biodiversity, skyrocketing rates of childhood cancer, etc.
• Electrification of rural parts of the developing world for the first time, and all the good that this represents: better education, healthcare, potable water, reduced deforestation, stronger families, and most importantly, lower fertility rates
• OTEC is supported by Lockheed Martin, a $47 billion company, primarily known for building weapons, but now interested in “beating its swords into plow-shares”
Wow. These aren’t topics like some old lady’s cat got stuck up a tree; this is the stuff that anyone with a conscience is wrestling with, because it affects the very survival of humankind on this planet.
Even better, the websites we’re targeting are more or less forced to carry well-written stories on the subject. They need quality content on the subject. This won’t be hard, my friend.
