Bill Maher, Jim Inhofe, Big Oil, and Corruption
Apparently, comedian Bill Maher (pictured here) plans to use his talents and stature as a celebrity to identify and remove “the worst member of Congress.” Though there are dozens of excellent candidates, I suppose I would nominate Jim Inhofe, (R, OK) for his aggressive actions against clean energy (most notably biofuels) while being on the receiving end of enormous sums of money from the oil companies; more than 80% of his campaign contributions come from Big Oil. If you want a poster child for corruption, for everything that’s wrong with American government, I’m not sure you have to look much further.
Having said that, I know there are environmentalists who, paradoxically, want Inhofe to stick around as long as possible, on the basis that his antics are so “over the top” that he does his position far more harm than good. I suppose that’s possible.
In any case, it will be interesting to see where all this goes.
I don’t agree with Bill on everything, but it would be nice to see more public figures taking a stand against the massive and lethal corruption and willful ignorance in our “public servants” – wouldn’t it?
