Renewable Energy Books Pose No Great Threat To J. K. Rowling or Stephen King

A friend in the UK and I were just comparing notes on how hard it is to sell huge volumes of books.  While this is true, I pointed out that I don’t regret the enormous amount of time I’ve invested into my three projects on renewable energy, as there are other reasons to write them – some of which benefit me personally, and others, I’d like to think, civilization as a whole.

• The process of researching and writing is a great learning experience.
• Many of the people I’ve interviewed have become close friends and/or clients.
• The books have made me a candidate for radio and television programs; I’ve been on at least 40 or 50 over the years, and several people have contacted me based on having heard/seen me.
• The offer of a free e-copy online is appealing; I’ve given away 3400+ over the last few years.
• They’re fabulous gifts to business prospects. I’ve given away a few hundred hard copies over the years, and almost every recipient has expressed (what I believe to be) sincere gratitude.
• Everyone who reads them comes away with a better understanding of the subject, and is more likely to be involved in building solutions to the world’s energy-related woes.  The fact that my books have been used as required reading in a few college courses is especially gratifying, as, obviously, young people make a huge difference to the outcome that we will achieve as a civilization.

Overall, it’s a process that I heartily recommend; as you can see, it puts a smile on my face:
