Dr. Alex Cannara, Ocean Acidification, and Advanced Nuclear
I recently came across the work of Dr. Alex Cannara, an extremely senior engineer based in Northern California, while I was writing a few comments onto blog posts published on Renewable Energy World. Dr. Cannara is one of the foremost experts on ocean acidification, one of the scariest types of environmental degradation that is occurring due to humankind’s increasing dependence on fossil fuels.
The average pH of the oceans is 8.1 now, down from an historical average of 8.2 that had been steady for hundreds of millions of years until the dawn of the industrial age. Today we’re dumping 9 gigatons of CO2 into the Earth’s atmosphere, which is 30 times more than our oceans can sequester. Worse, the acidification is killing the shellfish, which are the very engine by which this sequestration takes place. If this trend continues at this rate unabated until 2050, it will become irreversible, and all ocean animal life except for a few species of jellyfish, will become extinct.
Dr. Cannara believes that the most practical way to avert this catastrophe is the development of advanced nuclear, which means a great number of different things, but certainly includes the use of thorium; in fact, the talk he gave linked above was given at a recent thorium conference.
Taking back the narrative: When you start with the wrong premise, you are not likely to get to good answers.
First it was CO2, then just referred to as Carbon, now the narrative just points at “climate goals”
The narrative gets further from the point, CO2. CO2 itself is not a pollutant, but can be useful in estimating the amounts of other pollutants.
CO2 is a plant food
But most important CO2 is not correlated or causative of global warming.
Even the narrative of Global Warming had to change, as even the hardcore warmistas realized that the earth was not warming, unless you believe the data that NOAA and the MET jiggered in order to push for the Paris agreement. Now the narrative is Climate change.
Everything needs to be altered in the narrative, because the facts don’t fit the original theory.
Let me repeat, CO2 is not correlated or causative of global warming or climate change for that matter.
Perhaps you can defend this position–a reasonable request given the findings of almost every scientist on Earth.
