People’s Climate March — Looks Like a Huge Success
I’m sorry I was unable to be a part of this historic event. “People in the streets as far as the eye can see,” reported the NY Times, a reporter for which took this shot a few hours ago. Wow, that’s good news; it certainly is gratifying to see that the march is proceeding so successfully.
As the great abolitionist and author Frederick Douglass told us, “Power concedes nothing without a demand.” And the point here, obviously, is proffering such a demand: we will not allow our leaders to let civilization destroy itself with a “business as usual” approach towards carbon-based fuels. Most of the CO2 we’re pumping into our ever-warming atmosphere comes from the consumption of fossil fuels. Let’s take the necessary steps to weans us away from coal, oil and gas, and push for a low-carbon future.
There are one heck of a lot of people in New York City right this minute, making exactly that point.
I love the banner in the front-right of the photo, referring to this demonstration as the “forefront of change.” Exactly right.
