Nuclear, Solar, and Wind—We’re Not Enemies
A colleague whose expertise lies in advanced nuclear sent me this earlier today—a comment a reader had written on his blog:
“How sad is it that we continue to debate renewables vs. dated nuclear technology, when we should be leading the world in developing all promising technologies.
Our children deserve a more informed, non-partisan effort. China has targeted 2015 for completion of a 2MW LFTR (liquid fluoride thorium reactor) prototype. If the Great Generation could fight a World War, then come home and build world-class infrastructure and educational systems, surely we can build all promising prototypes quickly, and stop promoting our respective self-interests.”
Nice job. That’s a person with a really solid command of the written language. Even more to the point, his/her point is right on the mark. Even the solar and wind people seem to argue about the respective merits of their technologies, when the world is in such desperate need of all cost-effective types of clean energy. We need to knock that off.
