How Objective Is the Reporting on Renewable Energy and Fossil Fuels?
Most thoughtful and decent people wish there were a way to force authors of purported unbiased “research papers” to disclose their political ties and the sources of their funding. Here’s an interesting story along those lines, entitled “Accuracy Happens: A Fossil Fuel Pundit’s Funding Is Exposed.” At a minimum, it calls upon us all to question the objectivity of the stories we come across that blast renewable energy for receiving government subsidies.
I particularly love the line:
Charles Koch?…. “His organization just sends me money.”
As you read the article for yourself, you’ll probably share the thoughts I did:
• Holy cow, it sure took a lot of string-pulling to get to the truth here.
• There sure are a great number of “think tanks” promoting and re-promoting the idea that fossil fuels are cheap, abundant, and environmentally benign. Gotta wonder who’s funding their efforts.
Scott Peterson, the author of the article, is executive director of the Checks and Balances Project, a Virginia-based watchdog that seeks to hold government officials, lobbyists and corporate management accountable to the public. I can’t imagine how many hours he invested in getting to the truth here, but I’m sure it was staggering. How many of us, on our own, are willing to do that?
