Investment in Big Oil Is Soon To Tumble
I’m not the only one asserting that renewable energy is coming at us far faster than most people believe. This has several important implications that are going to cause a virtuous cycle, further accelerating the migration away from fossil fuels.
The most obvious of these is investor (herd) mentality. What happens when Wall Street realizes that the fortunes of Big Oil are on their way out, and that the value of high-quality companies offering green energy solutions can’t do anything but go through the roof? Even if the world never considers the externalities of burning hydrocarbons for a moment, the cost of energy from solar and wind is plummeting so fast that it’s already on a par with fossil fuels in many cases. At a certain point, and I happen to think it’s fairly soon, we’ll see a mass exodus from Big Oil stocks and bonds, simply because investors want to get out before a crash.
I think this will happen far faster for coal which is primarily used for power than for oil which is used far more for transport.
