Big Oil Faces Big Legal Trouble
As I predicted a few years ago, the oil companies are headed in the direction that the tobacco industry took 50 years ago. They:
• Conducted research that confirms the damage that its product causes
• Aggressively denyied the truth
• Find themselves on the wrong end of a torrent of civil and criminal complaints
Check out what “climate hawks” want to do with ExxonMobil, given the recent epiphany that the company’s own research established the link between fossil fuel consumption and climate change in the 1970s, then conspired to cover it up. It’s not going to be pretty for these people, as suggested here.
I would think it would be hard for big oil to recruit young people starting out on their careers, when the not-too-distant future looks so bleak and the integrity of the entire industry is so sullied. But hey, what do I know?
