From Guest Blogger Joel Smith: Green Cleaning–Protect Your Family and Environment
We live in a world today where life and technology are moving fast. While we have all learned to pace ourselves with how the world revolves these days, it comes with a price. You see, as much as many of us yearn for improvement – in the convenience and processes of our daily routines – the safety of the environment and Mother Nature is put on the line.
How, you ask? For instance, we have cars to take us to and from our work place. What once was a walking distance is now travelled by automobile. The result? Additional waste gases emitted to the atmosphere that slowly burns a hole in the ozone layer. Now, zoom out and imagine majority of the world’s population the same thing. Not very safe, is it? If you got the message, it’s time to take action.
1. Save energy.
You probably see this everywhere but only because it’s true. Conserving energy and saving electricity can go a long way from saving your electricity bill to saving the earth. The best part is you don’t have to do much. Just turn off any appliance in your home that you are not using and there you go.
2. Clean your environment.
You may think that waste cannot affect the environment but you are wrong. Plastics and other non-biodegradable wastes can harm the environment as much as it can harm you in the future. Bliss cleaning should be a basic trait. Make a habit of cleaning your environment starting from your home.
3. Reduce, reuse and recycle.
Since we’re talking about non-biodegradable waste, let’s dig in deeper. Plastic bottles and other non-biodegradable materials do not combust. Therefore, you can still find ways to use these materials and not totally disregard them. The best thing about recycling is you get to enhance your arts and crafts skills.
4. Choose locally grown organic food.
Organic products are not only good for your health but they are also good for the environment. In contrast to their opposite – fertilizer grown products – which can be harmful to your health because of the chemicals and are only good for the big businesses that sell them.
5. Leave your car and start using bicycles.
Here’s a thought: if we all use bicycles instead of cars, we can enjoy the fresh air, reduce carbon monoxide emission, reduce traffic, get to socialize with other bikers and keep our body healthy through this regular exercise. Enough said.
6. Reduce green house gas emissions.
You’re probably thinking: if large factories do it, what difference would your small car usage make? The answer: a lot. It starts with one random act of helping the environment to drive awareness.
7. Improve indoor air quality at home.
While you’re at it, clean your home regularly. If you have carpets and other dust-accumulating appliances, dust them often to keep the air quality in your home healthy and clean.
It’s a constant battle between what is easy and what is safer. The question is: why can’t it be both? If you look back, people before have lived simpler lifestyles without much threat in the environment, and they still “lived”. Our generation and the next generation deserve just as much. So start acting now.
