From Guest Blogger Marie Nievess: Tips for Cleaning with Environmentally Friendly Products
Cleaning your house is undoubtedly important – living in a clean and dust-free environment affects your health, life standard and self-esteem in the most positive way possible. Moreover, welcoming guests to a dirty home is never good. In order to achieve the highest standards of home cleanliness, many people use strong chemical-based products that are actually bad for them. Here is how your home can be spotless and toxic-free by using environmentally friendly products.
Why Go Green?
In this day and age, keeping our planet as healthy as possible is paramount. There are many ways to do so and, depending on their abilities, every person can do something. However, further prevention might be the key and there is no better way to ensure prevention of pollution than using eco-friendly cleaning products.
Unlike store-bought chemicals, these do not damage your hands, harm your health nor, ultimately, destroy the environment, but do quite the opposite. They combine cleaning and an environmentally-aware approach to life, ensuring great results.
What to Use?
When speaking about green cleaning products, there are a number of those you can use, depending on what you are focusing on. You can make your own products by using everyday items such as borax, baking soda, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, lemon juice and water. Additionally, you can also introduce essential oils, fresh herbs or citrus peels, as well as olive oil or coffee beans that add a nicer smell to your DIY products.
Where and How to Use?
You can use these products in every single room around the house and on all surfaces you want to clean. Of course, not all products are applicable to all areas, so you need to bear their formulas in mind when deciding which to use.
For example, there is a sort of universal cleaner you can easily make in a matter of minutes – just mix a cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda into a gallon of water and use it for removing stains in your bathroom, from shower panels and chrome fixtures to windows and mirrors. If you want to remove mold, just mix water and hydrogen peroxide (in a two to one ratio) in a bottle, spray it onto the mold and rinse with water. Furthermore, a clogged drain can be taken care of by pouring half a cup of baking soda and the same amount of vinegar into the drain and then pouring boiling water over it. Finally, you can clean and polish your floors by adding a cup of vinegar or a teaspoon of washing soda into a gallon of water – and do not forget a few lemon drops for additional shine and scent.
In the End
Inspired by an article I found on Pristine Home’s blog, I decided to make some cleaning products on my own – they are green, eco-friendly and environmentally-aware. Once you start making them, you will learn which ingredients to include and how to mix them perfectly. Consequently, your home will be cleaner and your environment much healthier.
