Our Civilization is Making Progress
Over the weekend we learned that all 30 hardliners will lose their seats to reformists in the Iranian government based on elections held late last week. This puts a smile on the face of every decent person on the planet.
Are things like this part of a larger trend toward a better, more compassionate civilization? Keep in mind that the last few hundred years have brought us the Renaissance, the Age of Reason/Enlightenment, the US Constitution, the French Revolution, Woman Suffrage, the international justice system, and the Civil Rights Act, to name a few.
Some might say we’re on a roll.
The usual mode of progress is two steps forward, one step back. It is rarely linear and continuous.
