A Rare Bit of Whimsy at Intersolar
At least 99% everything one sees at the huge renewable energy trade shows like Intersolar is product and service offerings intended to be completely serious and practical, i.e., a more cost-effective approach to solving a certain problem that has ever existed before. The remaining 1%, however, can get pretty zany.
Here’s a pic I took of the “Solar Flower,” an artistic/decorative product intended, I presume, to adorn business campuses and public spaces. Its “petals” are lobe-shaped PV panels, splayed over one another, all attached to a motorized stand that tracks the sun.
Obviously, the cost per Watt here is ridiculously high, but that’s not the point.
So what is the point? I’m not sure, but there sure was a throng of people gawking at it.
