Electric Transportation: Lots of Movement In the Right Direction
My colleague Jon LeSage writes in this Green Auto Digest:
Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to promote China-based BYD’s electric vehicles and zero emissions campaign.
It comes at a time when BYD has been promoting its “Cool the Earth by 1°C” campaign for the creation of a “Zero Emissions Energy Ecosystem.” BYD and Oscar-winning actor DiCaprio will spread the word on plug-in cars, utility vehicles, buses, solar energy, renewable storage, and light electric monorail systems – all of which are being developed and produced by the company. DiCaprio launched a documentary on climate change, “Before the Flood,” in which he starred, at the Toronto International Film Festival in September; the film featured an interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Will this be meaningful with the rank and file Trump supporter? Of course not, given their disdain for the “Hollywood elites.” Yet I think the majority of Americans, i.e., those who voted against Trump, find the environmental advocacy of major celebrities compelling, especially when it comes from such well-reasoned sources as DiCaprio.
Considering that McDonald Trumpet likes being a TV star, it seems strange that Trumpet supports have distain for “Hollywood elites”.
I’m not sure he does himself, but his followers (in general) certainly do.
