In the Spirit of Christmas
Frequent commenter Silent Running writes this thing of beauty about the spirit of Christmas and the 2GreenEnergy community: “Christmas brings many different things and feelings to all. Your community includes and counts on your 2GreenEnergy site as an everyday blessing that allows for good exchanges of new thoughts and technologies that can bring better solutions to the world’s supply of energy, food and water, and their complex, interrelated challenges, not to mention our collective health from a reduced carbon-burning world.“
Thanks so much for this, Silent; I’m deeply moved. It calls to mind how cynical I’ve tended to be recently, and how antithetical that is to the main effort here, i.e., providing a space for a positive exchange of ideas, and creating enthusiasm about all the wonderful potentials of our civilization. I greatly appreciate this perfectly timed reminder.
I can’t promise that I won’t write another expression of pessimism over the next four years, but it will be hard to do so without recalling your thoughts here.
Very well said SR. And a nice response from Craig.
A beautiful and intriguing picture by the way. A piercing look that suggests intelligence and understanding against a backdrop of the spirit of traditions and good feelings.
I always enjoy reading your emails Craig, very informative and intelligent. They also don’t ask for a contribution. I wish more people were subscribed to this list!
Well said, Silent.
I’m currently freezing here in the UK, while back home in Australia my neighbors are enjoying a heat wave !
Reflecting on how much we take for granted, in the span of only a few generations a six month voyage has shrunk to 30 hours and I can speak to Australians by video link from the UK.
Such achievements should inspire confidence for mankind’s future. Our ingenuity and adaptability have always proved the greatest assets our species.
A special thanks to Craig for providing a forum for ideas, information and debate. Over the years Craig’s advocacy and writing has proved an invaluable contribution to motivating all kinds of people to better stewardship of our small planet’s environment.
Seeing youngsters makes me sad that I’ve not been able to find or generate any support for a demonstration of what I believe is exactly what is needed to make the situations they will someday face somewhat more tenable.
Thanks, Craig, yet again and still, for your valor in this effort.
Among many other good things, you’re achieving within your work here a fine illustration of what I think are the five keys to success for our species’ transition to sustainable humanity:
Truth – Non-Violence – Cooperation – Direct Action – Perseverance
This transition is within our powers, but it requires significant shifts in values, culture, and dominant technologies and infrastructure.
In my observation (and, I believe, yours too), the barriers before us are neither technological nor resource based, nor even fiscal, but rather political and moral, psychological and informational.
Those who see the necessity of change – and the required course – must organize and work together to win out over those whose opulence depends on the status quo.
