Energy Efficiency Solutions Are Attractive to the Heart and Mind, Though Not the Libido

plumbing-whizLong-time 2GreenEnergy supporter Brian McGowan sent me this piece on heat exchangers for the home. I responded:

I think it’s cool that you’re into stuff like this, unsexy as it may be. Efficiency solutions are never as glamorous as stuff that generates electricity, even when it has no moving parts and sits there quietly, like solar.  I’m sure I told you about my associate John Perlin, scholar in residence at the University of California at Santa Barbara’s physics department, who’s in charge of there enormous solar array on the roof of a parking lot.  He says it’s common for people to request a tour and for them to comment at the end, “Is that all there is?”

Here, it’s even less pulse quickening, since it’s entirely out of sight–under a bathroom drain no less.

Keep up the good work.

    Craig,

What an excellent article. Thank you Brian for highlighting the value of these often overlooked humble, but immensely practical and valuable technologies.

Hot water recovery systems should be requires for every domestic new build and compulsorily retrofitted to all commercial applications.

This is a rare moment when Myself, Craig, Brian, and Marcopolo are in perfect agreement.

We should probably just pause to appreciate that.
      🙂

Every kWh of energy that we recover is a kWh that we no longer have to produce. (This is the idea behind the flawed but still-useful concept of the “Nega-Watt”.)
