A Contributed Post: Five Advantages of Using Solar Battery Maintainer
We’re getting much better at harnessing the power of solar energy. Technology has advanced to the point where solar power isn’t something clunky but accessible for all sorts of users. One of the best devices you can get if you want to use renewable energy to your advantage is a solar battery maintainer. But what is it and what are the five advantages of using it?
What are solar battery maintainers?
A solar battery maintainer is a handy little apparatus that allows you to keep your battery charged at all times – even when you aren’t using it. It’s generally used to charge the car or motorbike batteries but you could use it for your lawn mower, boat or other such devices. The maintainers come in all sizes from small panels to larger ones for recharging bigger devices.
So, what are the advantages of using a solar battery maintainer?
It’s an environmentally friendly product
Naturally, we must first mention the environmentally friendly nature of a solar battery maintainer. The unit only uses the energy from sunlight to generate energy and you are, therefore, not creating harmful by-products in the process of using it. It’s a green way of managing your energy spending and ensuring you don’t run into trouble with devices you don’t necessarily use that regularly. By using a solar panel maintainer or solar power in general, you’re not adding any harmful by-products in nature or creating emissions that might harm the environment.
It’s easy to use
The biggest advantage to using solar battery maintainer is the ease of use. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to take advantage of the product. The only thing you need to do is find a spot where the maintainer gets a good amount of light and then connect it to your device. For example, if you want it to preserve and charge your car’s battery, you could place the solar battery maintainer on the front window and connect the lead to your car.
Furthermore, most models can be used either outdoors or indoors – you just need to ensure there is enough light flowing towards it. The maintainers often come with little suction cups or screws that make securing the product ease.
It’s flexible to use
A solar battery maintainer is also great because it offers plenty of flexibility in terms of use. You’re not dealing with wires here – the maintainer is a simple panel that you need to attach somewhere sunny and then connect it to your device. You don’t need to worry about access to a power supply or avoid using your devices in places where there are no energy outlets.
With a solar battery maintainer, you enjoy more freedom of movement. You are guaranteed to have fully charged devices no matter where you go. For example, the maintainer would add plenty of flexibility and peace of mind to your road trip or a boat trip!
It helps preserve your devices
Now, solar battery maintainers also play an important role in preserving your other devices. If you don’t use a car or any such electronic device regularly, the battery will start running out anyway. This might actually be harmful to your batteries as they might lose their ability to fully charge.
When you connect the batteries to the solar battery maintainer, the batteries are constantly put under a slight electrical charge, which helps preserve the battery. It not only ensures you never run out of charge but also helps keep the batteries healthy. This is a great advantage because it improves the quality of the battery and increases the longevity of the product. You won’t need to worry about replacing your batteries regularly or have to use your items just to ensure they don’t stay inactive.
It’s affordable and could save you money in the long run
Although you might find solar battery maintainers more expensive than certain traditional AV-chargers, the products are actually a lot less expensive than you might think. Solar panels have advanced in recent years and the technology is becoming much more mainstream. Not to mention how you can use the solar battery maintainer without having to pay for additional energy. For example, consider you are using a traditional plug-in-the-wall charger to top up your car batteries. You will be spending energy and adding to your energy bill! With the solar battery maintainer, you are just paying for the product, after which you don’t need to worry about the costs.
If you want to cut the cost of your solar battery maintainers further, you can do so by shopping smart. Compare different retailers, such as Currys and Halfords, and their prices. Look for special saving offers at HotUKSavings.co.uk and shop for the solar battery maintainers during a sale, such as during Black Friday or the Summer Sales.
For those looking to preserve and treat our precious nature with respect, solar battery maintainers are handy tools to get. They are effective, efficient and eco-friendly and will ensure you can use your electronic devices without having to worry if the charge runs out.
Whether solar battery maintainers are worthwhile would depend on circumstances. I use a plug-in battery maintainer for my motorcycle and have no plans to replace it. However, I think that there are better uses for solar battery maintainers.
Plug-in wall clocks scarcely exist any longer. Instead, wall clocks are battery operated and the battery has to be replaced periodically. Why not have a tiny solar panel instead of periodically replacing batteries? The tiny solar panel could operate on room light without requiring direct exposure to the sun since so little power is required. It could charge a tiny ultra capacitor which would never need replacing.
Also, some people and businesses have emergency generators in case of power failure. That has its drawbacks because periodic maintenance is required. Also, liquid fuel degrades over time and the natural gas supply could fail when the power fails.
Perhaps it would make sense to have batteries to provide power for a few hours or a day or so in case of power failure and use a solar panel to keep the batteries charged.
When I got my first solar panel and then my first small deep cycle battery I was wondering what to do with the power. I decided to attach 2 cigarette lighter adapters. To one of those adapters I attached a 4 port USB charger so I could charge all of my phones and tablets. To the other adapter I got a AA/AAA battery charger which also had a USB charger in it. I charge NiMh batteries for all sorts of purposes. Clocks, remotes, LED flashlights, bathroom scale, even my wife’s little toy rocking horse which makes galloping noises and moves it’s head and tail. The point is with this small arrangement even if there was a string of cloudy days I was able to keep myself in lights and communications with ease.
You’re an inspiration to us all, as I’ve told you dozens of times.
