Worried About Climate Change? Relax.
If you’re concerned about the ultimate impact of climate change on the Earth and its people, there’s no longer any reason to worry. A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) told a constituent last week that God can solve the problem of climate change if the global phenomenon truly exists.
There. I knew you’d feel better. Of course, this guy’s no more qualified to make the laws that affect 320 million Americans than he is to perform brain surgery, but I wouldn’t let that bother me.
Hi Craig,
” this guy’s no more qualified to make the laws that affect 320 million Americans than he is to perform brain surgery”
Yes, he is ! It’s odd, but the only qualification needed is getting elected, and convincing a majority of other legislators to agree.
Maybe he’s right. Maybe when we care about the environment, our inspiration comes from divine promptings we don’t recognize or fully comprehend.
How can a religious man so ignore the possibility of God acting through human agency? Surely this is an abdication of responsibility.
This reminds me of a joke about a man clinging to his roof during a major flood, and praying for God to rescue him.
A boat comes along to rescue him from the roof but he refuses saying he has faith that God will rescue him.
A little later, the flood waters have risen even higher and he is wet, and cold, and still praying for God to rescue him. Another boat arrives, and once again he sends away the boat.
Next he is up to his neck and along comes a helicopter dropping a winch down to haul him off the roof. He still refuses to be rescued saying God will save him.
Finally, the man drowns, and God meets him at Heaven’s gate asking him – what are you doing here?
He says I prayed and prayed believing you would answer my prayers and rescue me.
God replies, I sent 2 boats and a helicopter. What more do you expect?
It always amuses me when people say things like God intended that climate change should be ignored, because only He can destroy the world. I could say that God intended me to rule the world. Hey. I kind of like that. 🙂
