Take a Cool Guess—The Fun Quiz on Renewable Energy and Environmental Sustainability. Today’s Topic: Assigning Blame for Environmental Destruction

0c53436ef7d27fbdde7bd3847322000aQuestion: By promising to expand its electric vehicle fleet and supporting bike sharing, Ford Motor Company has reasonably good PR when it comes to environmentalism and mitigating climate change.  But behind the scenes, Ford is pressuring the EPA to kill an emissions standard that would keep 6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions out of our air.  At the same time, truck owners are suing Ford for installing a technology on more than 500,000 of its gas-guzzling trucks to help them cheat on federal emissions requirements.

OK, who’s at fault here?  Well, Ford, obviously, but what about the EPA that is aggressively relaxing environmental standards across the board?  What about consumers who continue to buy Ford products?

Answer: Can be found at Clean Energy Answers.

Relevance: Environmentally responsible consumers face an uphill battle, in that both the public and private sectors often conspire to limit their choices, while hiding their actions from the public.

    Hi Craig,

FYI – The link above associated with the text “truck owners are suing Ford for installing a technology on more than 500,000 of its gas-guzzling trucks to help them cheat on federal emissions requirements,” is broken.

    Craig,

In fairness, the allegations against Ford Motors are still just allegations. Ford has denied the allegations and the evidence against looks pretty flimsy and shows an unfamiliarity with the complex technology involved and the testing system requirements.

Your automatic assumption of accuracy for what are, as yet, unsubstantiated allegations is disappointing.

    From the article:

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, also named German auto supplier Robert Bosch GmbH [ROBG.UL] as a defendant.

In a statement Wednesday, Bosch said allegations against the company “remain the subject of investigations and civil litigation” and it takes allegations of diesel software manipulation “very seriously.”

Last year, Bosch agreed to pay $327.5 million to U.S. owners of Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) vehicles for its part in installing illegal emissions-cheating software.

More recently, German prosecutors investigating whether carmaker Daimler AG manipulated emission tests on its diesel cars have looked at whether Bosch was involved.

    Cameron,

You’re not big on fairness or relevance are you ?
