From Guest Blogger Laura Williamson: Five Ways To Help Save the Environment
It is something that most of us have heard a dozen times already – how can we work towards conserving our own environment on a daily basis? And let’s be honest and say that most of us know the answers already. Every Earth Day, we are reminded that all of us reside on the same planet, breathe the same and most importantly, share an equal responsibility towards preserving and nurturing the natural environment that allows us to live.
Yet, it seems as though with every passing year, we are tearing apart the natural environment even more than ever. Now, it is even more imperative that each and every one of us does whatever it takes to make sure that the sheer rate of destruction and degradation is reversed in a few years time.
On that very note, here are a few keys ways in which everyone can help in collectively conserving the environment:-
- Don’t forget the most basic ways to conserve electricity and water: Both these aspects are used and wasted in unimaginably irresponsible ways. Make sure that you turn off all lights and switches when not in use and additionally, don’t make the mistake of leaving the tap open at both the sink as well as the bathroom. Additionally, you can be sure that a switch from a shower to a bucket bath will help you in more ways than one.
- Use skip bin hire: Unlike a lot of other rubbish providers, skip bin hire is a much better and more environmentally-friendly option on the whole. Not only is it a green service and complies with all of the rules and regulations, but there is also the fact that it is a much safer option than the other rubbish services. Since you can get the service to pick up the rubbish and schedule the pickup time, the aspect of convenience is also there.
- The twin aspects of walking and public transport: Not only will this make sure that you drastically reduce your carbon footprint, but it will also convince others to do the same in time. Just remember that if it’s close enough, there is no real reason for you to drive.
- Use reusable bags as much as possible: Plastic bags are the worst option and they take the longest to decompose in general. Make sure that you always use reusable bags, plus there are many stores that offer them free with a purchase.
- Try and create a compost heap in your backyard: To some people, this may be taking things a bit too far, but it is definitely something to think about. Even a compost bin will go a long way in ensuring the recycling of food and other biodegradable waste.
At the end of the day, children also need to be educated about these aspects at an extremely young and impressionable age. Only then will they make them a habit and realise the value of implementing such habits.
Also, never forget the basic fact of the matter is that change starts with you. And it doesn’t just end there, but it goes further with you educating and informing others about the value of the natural environment and all the necessary steps one can take to preserve it.
