Remaining Optimistic Takes Work
I had a nice chat with my aging but razor-sharp mom last night in which we discussed my concern that, beneath all the fun I have writing this stuff every day, I’m deeply concerned that humankind isn’t long for this world.
These are four excellent quotes from four different morons, but IMO Paul Broun gets the prize. “The pit of hell.” I really like that; it’s so forceful. More on it here.
The problem isn’t that there are idiots among us; the problem is that they’re making broad-reaching policies that affect every single one of us, and our descendants.
Maybe we’ll get past this phase and its limitless glorification of rank stupidity. Maybe we won’t.
Craig,
If you were the Dean of either the University of Georgia, or Medical College of Georgia in Augusta or even Athens High School, you might be tempted to refund Paul Broun his tuition fees if he stopped telling people he was a graduate !
On the other hand, you do great disservice to Jon Hubbard, by taking a quote from his book, ‘Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative’, completely out of context.
Hubbard did not attempt to condone the institution of slavery, not the oppression of Afro-Americans, he attempted to reference his observation in the context that sometimes seemingly disastrous events can, over the passage of time, have some positive outcomes.
It requires an analytical, and unemotional approach to history to appreciate the point he made, but it’s in accordance with remarks made by Dr Martin Luther King.
Calling someone a “moron” because of one comment which you misquote out context is more reflective of your own anger and frustration.
I maybe wrong, but you seem to reserve your most vehement opprobrium for those Republicans who were formerly Democrats or have a Democrat heritage ?
