It’s a New World’s Record!

april-globe-temps-nasa_0Humankind has a certain fascination with world records, which explains how Guinness has sold more than 138 million copies of their book of World Records in more than 100 countries since it was first published in 1955.

Here’s one you may not have seen: April 2018 was the 400th consecutive month that saw global temperatures higher than average since recording began about 140 years ago.

The probability of that happening by chance is (400/1680)^400, or 1 in 5*10^250.  This is approximately the same likelihood of hitting the Powerball lottery (1 in 293 million) 30 times in a row.
