Democracy in Name Only
If you want to live in a country where a few oligarchs control the entire law-making process, you can skip this video; if not, it’s worth a few minutes of your day.
With all the discussion of Russian interference in our elections, I was becoming afraid the U.S. Supreme Court Decision “Citizens United” was falling out of the public sphere. Thank God that’s not the case. As long a corporations can spend as much money as the want to elect their shills, we will continue to live in an extremely limited sense of the word.
There are several efforts in the works to overturn this dreadful ruling; Move To Amend is perhaps the largest and best known, but they all deserve your support.
Craig,
Oh my, all those wicked oligarchs and corporations wanting to express opinions about the economic life of the nation, or issues affecting the tens of millions of employee working for those corporations.
Disgraceful ! How dare those corporation with hundreds of millions of investors, many retirees, wanting as say how the money they generate for the economy is spent !
In fact, it’s not enough just stifling their voices and silencing their information, why do only half a job ?
Nationalize the lot ! Seize their ill-gotten gains and save democracy by preventing any sort of dissent and suppress those sowing discord, comrade ! Power to the working class.
What’s that ? !! Outrageous ! The US working class have rallied behind a strangely coiffured billionaire and aren’t listen to us anymore ? Traitors ! Swine !
What does the corrupt US Supreme Court, elected President, elected Congress, even the Constitution know about “true Democracy” ! Nothing ! “True Democracy” can only be decided by a small group of enlightened, liberal “true believers”!
On with the Revolution !
Oh,…..ah,..I seee,..um,.. yeah, okay, Charles Koch has made a donation to our comrade candidate election fund, hmmm,…how much ? Wow!!!
Look,..um..I think we can all agree it’s no good being too rigid about these things is there? Hmm, yes, I know what I said, but what I really I mean when I say “socialism” , is, ah,..”democratic Socialism”. The revolution? oh, “revolution is more of a metaphor. More of a peaceful “revolution” without radical action and obtained through the ballot box.
Friends and comrades, of course I still believe in the revolution and abolition of Citizens United! Absolutely ! As your Democrat candidate I’m only accepting Mr Koch’s generous, very generous indeed, donation to my election (and that brown paper bag of cash for certain personal expenses) to better represent the working class! Everything i do is for their good , not mine.
(Never mind where Mr Boxer has gone, it’s not your business !)
Now get that crowd (seems a bit small) chanting ” Never Trump, Never Trump……..
