Energy Storage Making Progress

sci-michio-kaku-on-consciousness-and-multiverseAs a colleague of mine likes to say, “Even sushi has a better storage model than energy.”

That’s true, but it won’t be for much longer, especially given projects like this one, in which 120 MWHrs of electricity are stored from wind energy blowing across the California desert. That’s enough to power 20,000 homes for four hours.

Our society is most definitely headed in the direction of becoming a “Class One Civilization,” as Michio Kaku puts it, i.e., one that derives its energy from its nearest star.

The problem is that no one knows how much damage will have been done along the way.

  1. Energy storage is very inefficient. If we can improve it even a little bit, the effects it would have would greatly benefit our society. Solar and wind power would be a lot more efficient.
