Mike Pence
I’m not completely sold that the content of the meme here is true; it’s possible that Mike Pence, being a politician, is simply pandering to his base, i.e., hardcore Christians who take every word of the Bible literally and discard anything that comes into conflict with it.
Fortunately, most Christians are more concerned about emulating the character of Christ, and, as far as I’m concerned, that’s a very good thing indeed.
Having said that, I think we need to take him at his word, and accept the fact that the meme here accurately represents his beliefs.
In that case, let me say that I don’t have a problem with living on the same planet as Mike Pence. There are people with equally unsupportable ideas all over the globe, and, as long as these folks are not dangerous, they’re all perfectly fine with me.
However, I do have a huge problem being governed by him, and you should too. The idea that important decisions are being made by people who aggressively deny science should scare the daylights out of all of us.
Craig,
Pence told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Sept. 27,2016.
“There’s no question that the activities that take place in this country and in countries around the world have impact on the environment and some impact on climate.” He added, “Donald Trump and I say, let’s follow the science, but for heaven’s sake let’s not go rushing into the kind of restrictions on our economy that are putting Americans out of work and, frankly, are driving jobs out of this country.”
Hmmmm,… kinda doesn’t accord with your “Meme”, does it ?
I’m not sure how you can jump from a belief Noah’s Ark existed, to climate change “denial”, but ok I’ll bite.
Let’s see, a belief in the existence of a great flood many millennia ago. okay, sounds a bit like the prophesies of a modern day alarmist climate change advocate, but ignoring that, geological evidence does support the theory of such an event occurring in Middle Eastern following a period of Mediterranean Volcanic activity.
It’s not unreasonable to assume some vessels may have been built to survive the consequences of such an impending cataclysmic event.
The Bible is a very old collection of writings, translated and re-translated many times by various sources of the millennia. To my knowledge, Mike Pence has never proclaimed his belief in the literal accuracy of the King James version of the old testament.
Like many conservatives, Mike Pence is a victim of people judging him by what others say he said, and not what he actually said.
From my research, the best impression I can glean from Mike Pence’s own record of statements, is he falls into a category of devout conservative protestant Christians who accept scientific principles and information, but also believe in the existence of a Supreme Being who created the conditions that allow the processes of all science to occur.
On a political level, that places Mike Pence in opposition to those who can’t accept such vague ideology, that includes the hard core fundamental religious who want ‘literalism’, and equally rabid atheists, Darwinists, extreme environmentalists and “ists” of all kinds”.
Mike Pence appears to be a fairly centrist, moderate. His brand of conservatism seems to be founded on sensible policies of safe, progressive responsible governance rather than the President’s populist and more radical agenda.
I just can’t find anything he’s said in recent years, if taken in the correct context, that could preclude him from being a competent, if rather dull and unadventurous, President.
Naturally, you are entitled not to wish people with his convictions to be in government, that’s your right guaranteed by the Constitution. However, people with religious convictions, and even those who doubt climate change science are also entitled to elect the government of their choice, their rights are equally guaranteed by the constitution.
Like religion, Global Warming/ Climate Change activism, is a very broad spectrum, in which actual science plays a remarkably small part, often lost among the cacophony of advocacy, political maneuvering, opportunism, ideology and ranting about unrelated agenda.
That’s the problem with choosing sides, you find yourself forced to accept a lot of stuff you don’t rally agree with, just to be part of a collective.
