From Guest Blogger DLight: Off-grid Solar

Renewable solar energy became a favorite choice among homeowners as an alternative power source. This energy depends on the sun’s radiation absorbed by solar panels to generate electricity.

Switching to solar energy lets consumers pick from using a grid-tied solar system or an off-grid one. A grid-tied system is connected to the city’s power grid while an off-grid can provide power for one household by itself.

An off-grid solar system keeps consumers from experiencing unexpected power outages while it also reduces electricity costs. Off-grid systems are also easy to install and are also good alternatives for rural areas. Homeowners can keep the environment clean and green when using off-grid systems.

Power outages are unpredictable and can happen for various reasons while lasting from several minutes to a few days. Not relying on the city’s power grid keeps you from experiencing such inconveniences as off-grid solar systems are reliable in outage situations as they store energy for such emergencies.

Relying on off-grid solar systems means not having to pay any monthly electric bills. Though initially expensive, the long-term results of relying on off-grid solar systems make up for the system’s cost.

Off-grid solar systems are easy to install, and you don’t need a professional to set up a system in your home. You only need your tools to set it up yourself especially since it doesn’t require any complex infrastructure to function.

Rural neighborhoods have fewer infrastructure making connecting to a power grid challenging but relying on off-grid solar systems lets homeowners enjoy electricity without having to pay any connection fees. People are also free to choose where to live when using an off-grid solar system.

Investing in using solar power keeps a homeowner from contributing to the pollution given off by plants using fossil fuels for energy. Many people are switching to renewable, solar energy because they want to help in reducing the cause of global warming by switching to renewable energy.

    Craig,

Um, I suppose it’s good of you to allow the guys at D Light t space to post an advertisement, but while they seem nice young men, their advice is not only inaccurate, disingenuous, but more than a little dangerous.

Installing an off-grid solar system and storage unit by yourself is very unwise.

Firstly, the system advertised by D Gen wouldn’t provide sufficient power 24hrs/365 days per year to run the average household.

Even with really large flow battery storage, most locations would require real sacrifices in lifestyle to operate without guaranteed supply. Few Americans, or the average person in the Western World, are willing to commit to living a semi-Amish lifestyle.

Installing your own solar system is a really bad idea ! In most jurisdictions installing electrical systems for household use without a certified electrician, is illegal.

Insurance companies are unlikely to approve amateur installations (especially public liability)making any policy null and void.

Such an installations also breach the conditions in most home mortgage contracts.

In many jurisdictions selling such a “non-conforming” home, except by auction, would probably be impossible as it would prove difficult to transfer title, and would certainly lower the sale price substantially.

(Much better to hire a certified expert!)
