Obstruction of Justice
Whither goest thou, the obstruction of justice case against the U.S. president? Here’s a video that may answer that question.
Featured in the video are Donald Ayer, Paul Rosenzweig, and Jeffrey Harris. Donald served as the Deputy Attorney General under President HW Bush, Paul was Senior Counsel to Special Counsel Ken Starr and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security under President Bush, and Jeffrey served as Deputy Associate Attorney General for President Reagan and Principal Assistant to Rudy Giuliani.
Some highlighted quotes:
“Obstruction of justice and perjury are far more important than most normal crimes. They go to the absolute core of how the rule of law functions in this society.”
“This administration, in my view, has an absolute disregard for the law.”
“As a former prosecutor, I did not think it was even a close prosecutorial call as to whether the president obstructed justice.”
“Were the president anyone other than the president, he would have been subject to indictment.”
“In the Mueller report there is a damning case of obstruction of justice by the president.”
Craig,
What will it take for you to face reality ?
No case for “obstruction of justice” exists.
Your comments are selective and taken out of context. In a nearly hour-long interview with Jan Crawford on CBS News, Attorney General William Barr provided a comprehensive summary and explanation of the inadequacy of the Mueller report and absence of any “collusion” or ” obstruction”.
It’s not “obstruction” for a President to resist or object to politically motivated criticism, exercise his legal rights or refuse to comply with illegal requests.
No law has been broken, the idea of “Guilty until proven innocent” is an anathema to US legal principles and the President has every right to declare his innocence.
The idea that although there may be no underlying crime, people can be prosecuted for not cooperating to “manufacture ‘ a crime, is abhorrent.
Using the power of the state to bully or intimidate witnesses into pleading guilty to spurious “crimes” or provide dubious testimony is a perversion of justice.
The end, never justifies the means.
Attorney General William Barr’s description of a “Praetorian Guard” mentality existing among certain officials during the late Obama administration is undoubtedly accurate.
It would also explain the peculiar manner and methods of the Mueller investigation and report.
At some point, commonsense must prevail, even among the most fanatical “never Trumpers”.
It’s time to move on, the US administration and political life can’t remain focused on an unhealthy obsession with the fantasy of unwinding the 2016 election.
The damage done to US institutions and faith in the US system of government by the “never Trumpers” is far more corrosive than any action by the President, Russia or and foreign power.
Craig, the American people no longer care! They’ve made up their minds and accepted the obvious.
1) There never was any “collusion”
2) The Russians probably made an attempt to interfere in the 2016 election, with little or no effect. Whatever they exposed about Clinton was true, and although embarrassing, was the result of her own actions and not the result of false propaganda.
3) President Trump is a very unconventional President, but he is what he is, and the US people are growing more interested in his policies and how those policies affect their lives, than the flaws in his personality.
4) The President’s support continues to grow as the nation accepts the necessity of the President’s strong response to Chinese expansion and unfair trade practices.
5) The US people have grown weary of endless outrage in general, and are beginning to lose interest in exaggerated scandal and sensationalism. The media can cry “wolf’ only so many times.
6) the danger for the Democrats is being identified as being in league with anti-American forces around the world, while the President becomes increasingly identified with defending and promoting American interests.
