Make Orwell Fiction Again

UntitledI ran into some people visiting from Sweden, wine tasting the other day.  Chatting it up, as I am wont to do, I asked about the Swedes’ perception of Trump.  One replied, “He may have 5 or 10 percent support. The vast majority of us simply feel sorry for you.  We’re in disbelief that this happened in the United States.  If it had happened, for instance, in Paraguay, I think we all would have said, ‘OK, whatever.’  But we never, ever thought it could happen in America.”

    Craig,

Sometimes ol’mate, you are unintentionally hilarious !

Oh dear, I’m sorry but I just can’t help envisaging the sort of trendy, leftist, Californian wine tasting, where guest from Sweden would be attendees.

    It’s a perfect scene for a comedy sketch !

    Craig,

Speaking of George Orwell would seem very pertinent in June of 2019. this is the 30 anniversary of the Tienanmen Square massacre in Beijing.

The government of the Peoples Republic of China and the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party has been preparing for these events each year with a budget of more than $US 13 billion to suppress discussion or knowledge inside the PRC and in Chinese communities abroad.

The reaction in the US has been saddening. despite rising aggressive from Chinese leaders such as Gen Wei, Chinese admiral’s and President Xi Jinping and the subtle, and not so subtle, suppression and “revision” of history by the People’s Republic against protestors, critics inside and outside China, the response by the west is mostly subdued and collaborative.

Recently, Xi Jinping, as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the People’s Republic of China, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, told his military commanders to “concentrate on preparations for fighting a war if the PRC is frustrated in its objective to regain the island of Taiwan.”.

I find it very disconcerting when two of China’s most senior Admirals boasts the US should be “very frightened of China’s military might and be more humble”, while American’s like yourself shake with fear and cravenly acquiesce.

Equally, disconcerting is your attacks on US service men and women, furious in your vilification of the US President, yet you are silent about the Chinese government’s increasingly aggressive nationalistic expansion, shocking human rights record,or millions in concentration camps for political dissidents.

Being charitable, I believe that American like you are either hopelessly naive or feel powerless in the face of the Dragon’s might.

So, you fall into line with the policy of China to redefine and censor history.

Perhaps you should re-read the works of George Orwell.
