Whither Goest the Trump Presidency?

Youre+god+damn+right+i+raged+_07d5835bcdd2e389b050f158367f7a8eFor two and a half years, I’ve been making predictions about the ultimate disposition of the Trump presidency, suggesting from time to time that something will emerge from a congressional or independent inquiry that is so flagrant that impeachment (or resignation) will be unavoidable.  That could be collusion, obstruction, witness tampering, violation of laws associated with campaign finance, governance of non-profits, the emoluments clause, or any of several others (there are 16 separate ongoing criminal investigations).

Of course, as my mom points out, I’ve been wrong every single time–and that’s 100% true.

But here’s another thought.  Given that Trump loses what little self-control he normally has whenever he’s criticized, and that he’s psychologically compelled to hit back when verbally attacked, it’s possible that he’ll have a meltdown, not unlike this dramatic scene (below) from the 1990s legal thriller “A Few Good Men.”

He’s shown himself capable of going off script and making jaw-dropping admissions many times, though, miraculously, none of these incidents has resulted in his being removed from office.  Early on, he told ABC’s Lester Holt that he fired James Comey to thwart Comey’s investigation into Russia, and just the other day he re-affirmed that be would violate U.S. electioneering law one more time by accepting help from a foreign power.

What if, one fine day, the volume on all this gets amped way up, and we have a shouting match that culminates in the blurting of a startling confession? No one will be surprised in the least.
