Is Trump’s Elimination of Science Advisory Boards “Nonsensical?”

csd-two-years-of-sidelining-science-trump-meme-for-FB_FINALTrump’s order to slash a number of science advisory boards blasted by critics as ‘nonsensical.’

From NBC News: President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Friday to cut the number of government advisory committees by a third across all federal agencies, a move that the White House said is long overdue and necessary to ensure good stewardship of taxpayers’ money. But critics said it is the Trump administration’s latest effort to undermine science-based and fact-supported decision-making. “This is another example of how disconnected the Trump administration is from the needs of the American people and how to protect them from harm,” said Mustafa Ali, who resigned in 2017 as the senior adviser for environmental justice at the Environmental Protection Agency……”It’s no longer death by a thousand cuts. It’s taking a knife to the jugular,” one science advocate said of the order to eliminate a third of the advisory boards.

Not to quibble over words, but “nonsensical” is the very last adjective to be used here.  Eliminating stuff that impedes the implementation of one’s pet policies makes perfect sense.

Now, one could argue that it makes no sense to implement policies that cause immeasurable amounts of harm to the vast majority of people on this planet, but even then you have a dispute.  Trump is passionate about favoring the super-rich at the expense of the common person; that may be evil, but it’s certainly not nonsensical.

Once you’re on board with that, science really does have to go.  Using facts to understand things like climate change, environmental toxins, achieving educational standards, fair labor laws, public health and so many other things is simply a nuisance to be avoided.  Makes eminent sense from here.
