    Craig,

Like most simplistic, sanctimonious little sermons it’s both ‘twee’ and irritating !

It’s typical of the smug, vague, ill-considered nonsense that substitutes annoyingly ‘moralistic’ babble for comprehensive thinking and objectivity.

Every social dynamic could be solved if we dismiss individuality, choice and well,.. everything that makes humans, human.

That’s the fundamental flaw in all leftist reasoning. Humans are individuals and they love the illusion of living very individual lives requiring infinite shades of variety and choice. Cars provide the individual with choices, giving the driver the ability to travel to a personalized destination of their choosing.

The automotive industry is a huge employer and outlet for a huge variety of human innovation, with many thousands of opportunities for human creative activity.

“Saving the planet” is of very little point if the very essence of being human becomes impossible.

That’s why all the “socialist” nation states failed. Humans will only accept so much loss of “freedom” (or at least the illusion of freedom)”, before individuality re-asserts itself.

Your illustration is counter-productive! Either by design or self-absorption the message identifies “gasoline and automobiles” with “individuality and freedom”. This completely defeats the message you are trying to convey.

It could be you are only trying to “preach to the choir” thereby influencing only a small coterie of true believers, (especially the young) but sooner or later even the young will see true motivation of the message as being deceitful political propaganda, disguised as a practical solution.

I realize you must find this sort of criticism disappointing, annoying and even hurtful. It’s not my intention to be gratuitously critical. I do so because I believe as an advocate-activist you have a duty beyond your immediate readers to the environmental movement as a whole.

Is, for you, the only value of clean(er) technology and environmental progress is just a mere cypher for advancing a confused blend of 17th century Puritanism and 19th century “socialism”?

If not, then can’t you see how you are frustrating and damaging so many other environmentalists working tirelessly to promote a better environment through the development and adoption of Clean(er) Technology? They’re tainted by your brush!

    Craig, you are fond of parody, so I give you an illustration of what i mean;

MP “Okay Craig, I hear you, I bought an EV”.

Glenn Doty at the gas pump filling his car with Craig, (sneering) ” EV’s are no good, you should ride a bike!”

Craig (smugly)”better yet, ride the “light rail”

MP. (confused) “….but there is no light rail near me or where I want to go, and bikes are too dangerous for me, also how do I take passengers…?

Craig, (angrily) to Glenn, ” Don’t encourage the troll !”

MP (startled) ” What? wha…hey what are you guy’s doing in a gas station filling your cars ?

Craig and Glenn,(singing in unison loudly) “Troll, troll, evil troll”)

MP (shakes head sadly ….and drives silently away)

Craig, (sanctimoniously while paying the evil oil company attendant), “well Glenn we sure showed that evil troll how wrong he was!”.
