HBD, Mahatma Gandhi
Today is the 150th birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. As we celebrate, we recall some of the most beautiful thoughts for which he is remembered, including, “Truth never damages a cause that is just.”
If it’s possible to name the single biggest and most tragic casualty of the last few years of life here in America, it is truth. Until recently, it would have been impossible to conceive of a national zeitgeist in which our leaders habitually lie, even when the truth would have served just as well, and the lie, naked and obvious to all, is immediately disproved.
Young people need to understand: There was a day when telling the truth mattered, and, God willing, those times will return to us.
