Scientists, Though Sacked, Keep on Working

As a nation, we tend to do a great deal of hand-wringing about job loss.  Given that, it’s strange that there isn’t more concern for the passel of scientists that have been fired from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over the past two years due to the current administration’s distaste for science, and its efforts to remove it from the play-making process.  What makes this that much more bizarre is they have a tendency to continue to do their jobs even after termination.

    Craig,

Good for them! Such news only confirms exactly why the EPA didn’t renew their contracts.

The people clearly saw themselves not as public servants, but as crusading, partisan advocates.

As crusading, partisan advocates, they are doing a great job contributing to scientific and political debate a private citizens. As citizen of a free society this their right, and they should be respected for their opinions and contribution.

However, it did preclude them from accepting the status of public servants, since the very nature of employment by the ‘civil service’ requires apolitical and unbiased employment terms.
