The Market for Idiocy

In response to my piece on Michele Bachmann and Trump’s moral clarity, a reader notes, “Michele Bachmann is an idiot!”

I would put it differently: she realizes that there is a market for idiocy, and she’s filling that unmet need. As long as there are significant numbers of people who deny climate change on the basis of what God said to Noah, i.e., that there would be no more floods, there will be plenty of Michele Bachmanns, successfully representing congressional districts in the United States House of Representatives, in this case four consecutive times, running for president, etc.

Or, in the word’s of Forrest Gump’s mother, Stupid is as stupid does.

There is only one antidote to Michele Bachmann: education.

    Craig,

We all have bad days. Take to the Washington Post’s week when stuff just couldn’t get worse.

Not being content with a series of inaccurate and misreported errors relating the House Impeachment hearings, the Post described Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as an “austere religious scholar at helm of Islamic State.”

What qualified him as a “scholar”, is a bit obscure.

    But worse was to come!

On Monday, Judge Bertelsman reversed his previous decision and allowed Covington Catholic teen Nick Sandmann’s $250 million defamation lawsuit to proceed against the Washington Post.

Over at CNN long time columnist Scott Jennings broke ranks, and like the two house Dems who voted against impeachment, wrote an accurate an precise analysis condemning the impeachment proceedings.

CNN’s boss Jeff Zucker threw a tantrum but the damage was done.

Tuesday saw the Washington Post caught lying once again.

    Headline trumpeting:

“White House official Tim Morrison confirms Bill Taylor’s account that Trump appeared to seek quid pro quo”.

In fact, the opposite happened. Morrison noted the multiple false assertions made by Taylor, and testified that he never thought anything illegal was discussed on the phone call !

Wednesday, the Post got hoaxed into re-printing a clearly faked photo of the President present the Medal of Honour to a Dog.

Finally, the week off, the Post ran a sycophantic profile of Congressman Adam Schiff in the “Style” section.

In addition, the Washington Post just published a glowing account of Presidential hopeful being a dark horse in the race and likely to become a surprise winner, came the day before the announcement Beto O’Rourke quitting the primaries as he couldn’t attract more than 1.6% support!

Perhaps the ol’ Washington Post might do better with the support of Jeff Bezos!
