Will Today’s Rollback of Regulations on Coal Plants Affect You?

Most readers will not feel the direct effects of the Trump administration’s rollback of the EPA regulations that had formerly kept toxic chemicals like mercury and arsenic out of our drinking water.  Yes, this certainly will result in more birth defects and cases of childhood cancer, but only for those unlucky enough to live within a certain radius of the 336 remaining coal-fired power plants.

We also need to keep in mind that all this has only negligible effects on the affluent, who can afford to live far away from power plants that billow poisons into our waterways and the air we breathe.

Hardly worth mentioning at all, really.

    Craig,

Yes, for those still living in 1919 ancient myths about coal technology must be very scary! Especially if you add a bit of class warfare imagery from 18th century Mill towns.

As usual the NYT article isn’t about some new, or even actually happened ! the article is what two “anonymous people” said to the reporter in a bar, might happen.

The NYT boasts proudly that “These people were not authorized to talk about new regulations” as if this was some weird kind of authentication, instead of the more rational explanation that they lack any real knowledge or understanding and are just adding in bits of their own narrative.

Yet, in your mind, not only has all this already occurred but your own worst fantasy is established fact!

Old coal plants, old coal technology is the direct result of President Obama’s ‘War on Coal’. At a time when the US coal industry was experiencing a challenge from a cheaper natural gas boom due to large scale fracking, the Obama administration set to work to drive away investemnt in new clean(er) coal technology.

The result is still being felt today as US technology which was transferred to Chinese and Indian ownership is flourishing all over the world at the expense of US taxpayers and US workers.
