California Isn’t Perfect, But It’s Doing Quite Well, Thanks Very Much

I get emails from people all over the country who want me to know that California, via its “oppressive” environmental regulations, is driving people, and especially businesses, out of state.

The only problem here is that none of it is true.  My normal reply: I’m guessing you actually have never been here.  Housing prices are high, but they’re being driven even higher due to snowballing demand.  Our freeways (and no one’s happy about this) are clogged with traffic, since people really want to be here.  Can you name another state with a $21 billion budget surplus? Do you know where 3/4 of all new jobs came from?

    Craig,

Did you miss the bit about ” Brown faced a $26.6 billion deficit. He resisted the Legislature’s call for new taxes, and the approved budget included some $15 billion in cuts which improved the economy and the state’s finances turned around”?
