Sun’s Volumetric Power Density

From a reader: I need the energy produced per cubic meter for the entire sun and not just the core.

First, you mean power, not energy.  A meaningful number would be the amount of energy in a given unit of time.

I get about 0.4 W/m3. In round numbers:

4*1026 W (power of the sun) / 4/3 π (7*108)m3

4*1026 / 4 * 73 * 1024

4*1026 / 1027

I just looked up the power density of the core, which is 273 W/m3, less than a compost pile.  Isn’t that amazing?
