Sorry, But Guidelines Won’t Help
Perhaps policing in the United States could benefit from a set of guidelines as to when it’s improper to spray bullets at random times and mow down innocent people.
Then we’ll need guidelines that ensure that police read and understand these guidelines, and that their organizations enforce them.
Finally, we’ll need guidelines for U.S. Attorneys General that make it improper to threaten to withhold police service from American citizens who question the virtue or wisdom of law enforcement personnel.
On second thought, scratch all that. Guidelines can never replace small bits of common sense and compassion.
