Trump Appalling? Isn’t That the Entirety of His Brand?

This morning, the President of the United States sent a tweet to his followers mocking Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old girl with Asperger’s, who stands at the center of the rally for climate change mitigation.

Thunberg was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year earlier this week over Trump, and thus 60+ million twitter readers saw this on the feeds: “So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!”

Now, of course, there are those who say this is appalling behavior, referring, one presumes, to its pettiness, its meanness of spirit, and its urinating on the dignity of the presidential office.

What these people are failing to understand, however, is that this is precisely what got Trump into office, and what has kept his approval rating from falling below 40%.  He’s a small, nasty, emotionally deranged bully, and that’s precisely why almost half of this country thinks he’s a terrific president.  If you want to be appalled at something, this is where you might want to focus your attention, not on Trump himself.
