Climate Change Denial

Here’s Bill Nye the Science Guy talking about climate change denial, generally.

Separately, here’s an excerpt from an article on how one might deal with denialists:

Based on a psychological review of motivated deniers’ opinions, (research team) Wong-Parodi developed four strategies that aim to make climate deniers rethink their stances. They are as follows:

1. Reframing solutions to climate change as ways to uphold the social system and work toward its stability and longevity

2. Reducing the ideological divide by incorporating the purity of the Earth, rather than how we harm or care for it

3. Having conversations about the scientific consensus around climate change with trusted individuals

4. Encouraging people to explicitly discuss their values and stance on climate change prior to engaging with climate information

Seriously?  Apparently Messrs. Wong and Parodi deal with a higher-brow set of climate deniers than I do.  I run into people who (literally) call me a cockroach because I have the temerity to report the findings of climate scientists, some of whom have been researching the subject for decades, writing and publishing peer-reviewed studies.  I’m not sure how interested they’d be in “reframing solutions.” I fear that if I asked them to “explicitly discuss their values,” they’d respond, “OK, here are our values.  What part of ‘You’re a cockroach’ don’t you understand?”

    Craig,

Let’s face it, be honest, over the last few years your style of advocacy has become, increasingly less tolerant, more abusive and combative.

As a belligerent “Crusader” you have become a passionate adherent of certain types of technology, eschewing others that may be good for the environment, but don’t suit the tenets of your adopted political/ideological crusade.

You have slowly become that which you once despised!

You label people “trolls” and “deniers”, simply because they don’t share your zealous political/ideological convictions, or may not share your adulation of pseudo-scientific prophets of doom.

Naturally, you and your cracker barrel group, are spoiling for a fight, and will seek out those equally intolerant as your selves.

You can’t be part of any solution until you realize you are part of the problem.
