End To American Rule of Law
What’s happening in the U.S. Senate is viewed by people around the world as the end of rule of law we had treasured since the dawn of the republic.
For most of us, at least here at home, this is the darkest day in U.S. history, but for others, e.g., the former president of Estonia, it’s cause for celebration.
Craig,
What arrogance! Do you really imagine the rest of World views the US political system as the epitome of the apex of legal systems?
Friendly allies have always been bemusedly tolerant of such boasting, while non-aligned and enemies have either been contemptuous or infuriated by such hubris.
As can be witnessed by world stock-markets, the political shenanigans in Washington are seen as mere political game playing by largely powerless, but truculent Democrat opportunists.
Jut because the Senateit doesn’t vote the way you want, it will not result in “end the rule of law”! The US people are heartily sick of whole process and want it to end.
The refusal of Democrats like you to accept the result of the 2016 election, and continually cry the “Wolf ” at even the most trivial incidents over the last 3 years, will ensure Donald J Trump will be easily return for another 4 years as President.
If Joe Biden is chosen as the candidate, he will become the “hill” on which the Democrats will fight and die, in a defeat of landslide proportions!
Curiously, it’s the populist President Trump who has emerged as the saviour of the Constitution. T
The Founding Fathers foresaw the rise of oppressive officials and bureaucrats and gave Presidents the powers to keep executive authority reserved for elected representatives (including the President). The Constitution reserved policy decisions solely as the responsibility of the elected Executive.
While Joe Biden was in retirement it was of no real value, (except to be vindictive) to investigate his irregular or corrupt dealings while VP.
However, that situation changed when he announced his candidacy. From that moment forward, his actions while VP became a matter of public interest and the duty of the President and American law enforcement to investigate the level of corruption to determine whether the candidate could be open to blackmail or obligation if he was elected.
If, with all the facts investigated and known, the US people still elected Joe Biden, then he could claim a legitimate mandate, despite any previous wrong doing.
The Senate is sitting as jurors. The idea they should be impartial is absurd. If witnesses were to be called, the proceedings would descend into a political squabble with Senators attempting to score political points by attempting to widen the hearing into a never ending debate.
That situation was not envisaged by the framers of the Constitution, who quite wisely believed such matters were best debated within the contest of an election and decided by the voters.
About the only remark the rest of the world has taken notice, was when Rep. Adam Schiff repeated the exclamation “this election (2020) is too important to be left to the voters to decide”!
To the rest of world, that remark revealed the desperation and moral bankruptcy of the US Democrats and “Never Trumpers”.
Let me assure you, at the WEF in Davos, the main topic of speculation was not the Impeachment of Donald J Trump, but Brexit.
The Economist, Financial Times and Wall Street Journal have focused on more interesting issues. All thee influential publications have carried articles floating the idea(first appearing in an editorial by Boris Johnson), speculating upon a British led Economic Community with a membership drawn from some of the industrialized nations of the old British Commonwealth (Canada, Australia, NZ, India, Singapore and Malaysia initially, with more added later).
Such an alliance could become the most powerful economic group in the world.
Far more interesting than the antics of the US Senate.
