“Smart Water”
Something inside me recoils when I see people coming out of (enormous American retail chain) Costco with cases of bottled water. The quality of tap water in the United States is generally good. In 2016, over 90 percent of the nation’s community water systems were in compliance with all published U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. In most cases, that’s not good enough for affluent households, which is the reason that there are hundreds of different types of filtration solutions which can be used to refill multi-use containers.
Fortunately, the idea of all that plastic, which will be around for hundreds or perhaps thousands of years, much of it sloshing around with the ocean currents, killing marine life and working its way into our food system as microplastics, is abhorrent to a growing number of people.
