Solar-Powered Yacht

I often point out that solar-powered vehicles are impractical in the extreme, but here, I have to say yowza.

I’m going to guess that there are 600 solar panels here, times 400 Watts is 240 kW or 322 HP. Now, there is a capacity factor here, but it’s far closer to one than the 20% figure commonly used, since one would think that this baby is likely to be sailed in sunny conditions.

The standard rule for yachts is 35 pounds per HP, so I’m guessing that this ultra-sleek vessel kicks major ass.

Drawback: passengers not on the roof are in the shade.

    Craig,

    “kicks major ass” !

Said by a man with obviously no experience in Blue Water sailing!

What is the point of a vessel that can only take to the water on calm sunny days and with an entire superstructure decking that is both fragile and impossible to use.

The vessel is an exercise in vanity or propaganda and of abosolutely no practical value.
