Beyond Beef

Plant-based meats have made incredible advancements over recent years, largely as a result of biochemists having isolated the protein “heme” (rhymes with “beam”), which, though found in plants, plays several important roles in animal tissue.  Heme lies at the core of what makes products like Beyond Meat and the Impossible Burger virtually indistinguishable from beef.

Our civilization’s demand for cow meat is every bit as destructive to our planet as its consumption of fossil fuels, in that it is the driving force behind the massive deforestation taking place around the globe, especially in the Amazon.
