Trump’s Newest Tool To Engender Outrage
When I was at Georgetown University studying philosophy in the late 1970s, I found that a significant number of professors, even those in math and sciences were Jesuit priests. i.e., members of the Society of Jesus (SJ).
A particular prominent member of that order is James J. Martin SJ, editor-at-large of the Jesuit magazine America. In 2017, Pope Francis appointed Father Martin as a consultant to the Vatican’s Secretariat for Communications. He is a New York Times Best Selling author and frequent commentator on the life and teachings of Jesus.
Here, he weighs in on Trump’s latest antic, in which he was photographed holding a Bible in front of Saint John’s Church. “Let me be clear. This is revolting. The Bible is not a prop. A church is not a photo op. Religion is not a political tool. God is not your plaything.”
How many different groups of people can Trump infuriate simultaneously? He really is on a roll now.
